Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo and Department of Trade and Industry Negros Oriental director Nimfa Virtucio are urging local artists, designers, creative entrepreneurs, and businesses to join the series of trainings and workshops by Beetzee so that they can improve their skill sets and crafts.
This product of collaboration between LGU-Dumaguete and DTI, under the Lunsod Lunsad: Creative Konnect Project, aims to elevate the creatives industry in Dumaguete to foster socioeconomic growth by strengthening local creative potential.
The first event is ALI, or Artistic Leap Initiative, a two-part, three-day event starting Nov. 16, for artists to gather and learn more about photography, videography, and graphics design under the tutelage of accomplished speakers in their own fields, like Chamberlain Guevarra, Hersley-Ven Casero, Mark Dave Vindiola, and Max Nocete.
Although this training is for free, those interested are required to go through a screening process to be accepted. For more information and registration, those interested may contact Beetzee via info@beetzee.com, or call 0956-7593300.
Participants of ALI are then expected to present the results of their efforts in the second event on Nov. 22-23, which is the showcase of their outputs at Chadaa, and shall serve as the opening of the three-day Creative Konnect, creating a unified theme of celebrating talent and products through live performances that give local creatives, companies, and individuals an opportunity to gather for the vibrant exposition of their works, connect with their audiences, and celebrate Dumaguete’s unique arts culture.
The program concludes with the Beetzee Best Songwriter Season 3: Band camp, featuring Willfreedo, starting Dec. 13, at Chadaa.
This three-day music event is for selected bands to gather for orientation and introductions, hands-on mentoring by Willfreedo, and the sharing of insights by veteran artists, with live performances of the bands to showcase their entries in a competition.
Cash prizes of P20,000, P15,000, and P10,000 will be given to the top three winners, while non-winning participants will get P5,000 in consolation prize, the city said.
Guevarra stressed the need to help empower the artists in reaching new heights through ALI, Creative Konnect, and Band Camp, in support of the incredible creative potential of Dumaguete.
Virtucio said that DTI is eyeing the further development of the creative industry players with the passing of the Philippine Creative Industries Development Act (PCIDA), or Republic Act 11904, and with programs geared towards positioning the Philippines as Asia’s premier creative hub by 2030. ||
