Mayor Benjie Miranda yesterday declared that he is seeking reelection as mayor of Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental in the May 2025 mid-term elections.
“I have no choice but to run again as mayor,” Miranda said, adding that majority of the people he has consulted wants him to continue his service to Kabankalanons as the local chief executive.
“My force comes from the people, not from myself,” said Miranda, who defeated incumbent Mayor Pedro Zayco during the 2022 mayoralty race by 278 votes.
Initial reports indicated that the Kabankalan City mayoralty race in 2025 will be a three-cornered fight between Miranda, former Mayor Isidro Zayco and Sixth District Board Member Valentino Miguel Alonso.
Miranda said that Kabankalan City is open to anyone who wants to run for public office.
“I opened the city to anyone willing to run. I don’t say that someone is not good to run. Those who dream to serve can run. We also have the same intention and that is to serve the people,” he added.
“May the best man win,” Miranda said.
