The Bacolod Emergency Operations Center recorded 57 COVID-related deaths in August, and two deaths in the first five days of September.

Dr. Chris Sorongon, EOC executive director for data analysis, said most of these cases came from the province and majority had not been vaccinated.

Bacolod logged 446 deaths since the start of the pandemic last year. Sorongon said four of the mortalities were fully vaccinated, eight received the first dose, while the majority at 434 or 97 percent were unvaccinated.

The EOC, meanwhile, noted an erratic spike in the number of new cases daily since last week. Hospital admission rate also increased, due to laxity in the observance of minimum health protocols after learning that cases had gone down in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental in August.

The EOC called anew for sustained vigilance of Bacolodnons, even if they have been vaccinated and their barangay has a zero case of COVID.

As of Sep. 2, the City inoculated 240,169 residents, with 101,360 fully vaccinated and 173,148 given the first dose.

Sorongon also said residents were allowed to choose their preferred vaccine against the coronavirus disease for almost a month now, as long as their age range qualified them for it.

He said the city has enough supply of four vaccine brands, including Sinovac, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Johnson and Johnson’s Janssen.

This week, the EOC expects another 40,000 doses of Sinovac vaccine to augment the stocks at the cold room facility of the city, to sustain the daily vaccination rollout in 33 “Bakuna” centers in malls and barangays. – MML
