The Silay City government spread holiday cheer amid the rains with the switch-on of its Christmas Village and this year’s added attraction – the Dancing Fountain – at the Public Plaza December 8.

Mayor Mark and First Lady Anne Golez led city officials and guests during the lights-on ceremony, on the theme “Pagsaulog sang paskwa sa tunga sang pandemya nga may paghigugma kag pagkabalaka sa pumuluyong Silaynon”.

The world-renowned Kabataang Silay Rondalla Ensemble entertained Silaynons and guests with best dance performances, together with the Silay South Elementary School Drum and Lyre Corps.

The appearance of several previous Lin-ays and Lakans of Silay elicited oohs and aahs as the plaza was filled with lights, to the rhythm of the upbeat Asenso Silay song.

Rev. Fr. Orlando Gargar, Vicar Forane of the Vicariate of San Diego in Silay, blessed the dancing fountain and the Christmas Village.

Mayor Mark thanked city officials and residents for witnessing the ceremony amid the drizzle, and lauded the parents of the performers for allowing their kids to participate in the event.

He also thanked President Rodrigo Duterte for helping fund the dancing fountain project, and said he hopes the attraction at the plaza will bring happiness to everybody.

“May the spirit of love, forgiveness, sharing, and peace will be with you all. To God be all the glory!” he said as he led the countdown to the switch-on ceremony. | NND
