A total of 1,357 drivers in Talisay City, Negros Occidental received financial and food assistance from the city government on Friday, June 26   as part of its continuing fuel subsidy program aimed at easing the impact of rising fuel prices.

Mayor Rowena Lopez-Lizares led the distribution of P1,000 in cash assistance and five kilograms of rice to qualified Talisaynon drivers during a program held at the Talisay City Public Plaza.

The assistance forms part of the city government’s “Ayuda ni Mayor Weng Para sa Sektor sang Transportasyon” initiative, a four-month fuel subsidy program launched in March to help drivers cope with increasing fuel costs.

The program seeks to reduce their daily operating expenses and enable them to bring home more income to support their families.

In her message, Lizares thanked the transport workers for their dedication and vital role in keeping the city’s transportation system running despite economic challenges.

She also reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to supporting the transport sector and ensuring that assistance reaches those who need it most. | GPB
