A 14-year-old Grade 8 student was rushed to the hospital after he was stabbed by a 12-year-old Grade 7 student outside the Sum-ag National High School in Bacolod City June 29.

Police reports show that a commotion broke out at around 4:18 p.m., which resulted in the victim sustaining minor stab wounds on his left arm and the left side of his body.

The 12-year-old suspect, classified as a child in conflict with the law (CICL), voluntarily surrendered to a police station at around 5 p.m.

Authorities immediately provided first aid before transporting the injured teenager to a nearby hospital for treatment.

In the wake of the altercation, Bacolod Schools Division spokesperson Lila Arro requested parents and guardians for a stricter supervision of their kids.

She said that while campus grounds remain peaceful and secure under the watch of teachers and security personnel, minor altercations have been spilling over onto the streets outside where school officials lose control.

Arro noted a troubling trend among students over the past week.

“If we look at the physical assaults, the beatings, the stabbings, that is alarming because that is not what our (previous) data showed. We are still in the first month of the (school) year and, in our records, we have not had this kind of experience for the past many, many years,” Arro said. | TMD
