Bacolod artist Doreen Dofitas’ first solo exhibition, titled “Permission To Play, No Expiry Date”, is ongoing until Sept. 12 at Ugsad Creative Space, Molo-Makiling streets in Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City.

“The very core of this exhibit is just that…play becomes art. A bold approach to not treat play as a luxury that we are bound to eventually outgrow. Creativity does not carry a sell-by date – and neither do the things we cast aside,” the exhibit brief states.

The exhibit is a visual rebellion that breathes vibrant life into play. An open invitation to unlearn the rules, claim your space, and reinvent. “The heart of this show is a live testament to the creative process, an ongoing, lifelong permission to slip to explore, disrupt, and delight – to play. No deadlines on wonder. No shelf life on joy.”

Self-taught and boldly experimental, Dofitas is an emerging artist whose work fuses vibrant collage with acrylics, pen and ink to create dramatic, symbolic narratives. She works primarily with handmade or recycled paper, ink, acrylics, and fabric, layered onto textured surfaces, and juxtaposed against colorful background.

Based in Bacolod, Dofitas is steadily emerging into the contemporary art scene. Driven by an instinctive love of organic, natural and reusable materials, her works become vessels that show her passion for visual storytelling, and designed to encourage viewers to explore the interplay between external environment and one’s inner world. ||
