WV gets new Coast Guard chief

Western Visayas has a new Coast Guard commander.

Commodore Arnaldo Lim yesterday assumed command of the Coast Guard District- Western Visayas.

Lim, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class 1995, replaced Commodore Edgar Ybañez, during a turnover of command ceremony held at the CGDWV headquarters in Iloilo City, presided over by Coast Guard deputy commandant for Operations, Vice Admiral Rolando Punzalan Jr.

Lim was acting district commander of Coast Guard District–National Capital Region, district commander of CGD Palawan, and former chief of the Coast Guard Weapons, Communications, Electronics and Information System Command, prior to his present assignment.

He also served as commanding officer of BRP Habagat (TB-271).

The next assignment of Ybañez, meanwhile, has not been known, as of this time. He used to command the Coast Guard District–Negros Occidental.

Lim, in his speech, revealed his plans to establish more substations in Negros Island, and vowed to further improve the PCG capabilities in Region 6, especially on disaster response.
