A one-year-old girl died while her six-year-old sister was injured in a fire that hit their home nearly midnight on May 24 at Purok Active in Barangay Mandalagan, Bacolod City.

The child was reportedly asleep when the fire broke out.

Her elder sibling managed to escape but she suffered burns in both arms and back, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said in a report.

BFP further reported that the house of Stella Sayon, mother of the victims, was destroyed.

The Sayon couple and their two other children were not home when the fire happened.

Investigators are looking into the possibility that the blaze was caused by an unattended lighted candle.

On May 20, two children died and their grandfather sustained second degree burns when a fire destroyed their home at Purok Lison in Barangay 1, Bacolod City.

The fire that hit the house started from a lighted candle, according to the BFP. | GB
