The sixth edition of the Farrah Sequito Rapid Chess Championship will be held Feb. 10 at Robinsons Place Bacolod, with several world class players among about 200 participants.
Event director Marvin Ting told the Negros NOW Daily that FIDE Masters Sander Severino, Christian Gian Karlo Arca, and Alekhine Nouri, as well as International Masters Joel Pimentel Jr. and Michael Concio Jr., among others, are expected to join the tournament at the third floor of the mall, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. this coming Saturday.
Ting said there is a total prize fund of P85,000, plus trophies and medals for winners in various categories.
These include P25,000 for the champion, P15,000 for second placer, P10,000 for third placer, and corresponding prizes for 4th to 10th placers, as well as top female players in several age groups, and top seniors.
The event is organized by Negros Island Chess Aficionados (NICA), with Sequito, former varsity player of San Agustin College, as main sponsor./CGC
