Hong Kong is filled with people rushing from one destination to another. It is a common sight in our fast-paced world. We are constantly bombarded with notifications, emails, and the demands of work, family, and social life. It is easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of activity and forget what truly matters.
Let us reflect on a simple yet profound practice: taking time to pray. It is a practice that Jesus, the busiest man who ever lived, prioritized. Here are three points to remember:
First, be like Jesus who is a man of prayer.
Despite His demanding ministry, Jesus consistently made time for prayer. Whether it was early in the morning or late at night, He sought solitude to commune with His Father. In Mark 1:35, we read, “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.”
This verse paints a picture of a man who, despite His divine nature, understood the importance of personal devotion. Jesus was not driven by a frantic schedule; He was led by a deep spiritual connection.
Second, have an intentional prayer time.
Morning and evening prayer time have been practiced by countless believers throughout history. These times offer unique opportunities for spiritual reflection and renewal.
As the Psalmist says, “Every morning I will greet you with gratitude and sing praises to your name” (Psalm 92:2). By starting our day with prayer, we acknowledge God’s sovereignty and seek His guidance for the day ahead.
The Psalmist also wrote “Evening, morning, and noon, I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice” (Psalm 55:17). Evening prayer provides a time to reflect on the day’s events, express gratitude, and seek forgiveness. It is a chance to release our burdens and find rest in God’s presence.
Third, do not forget to incorporate prayer in your busy life.
Incorporating prayer into our busy lives can be challenging, but it is not impossible. You can create a sacred space in your home where you can pray undisturbed. Start small but start it. Start with short, simple prayers. Be direct in your thanksgiving and request to God. Write down your prayers if you can. Keep track of how God has answered your prayers. Be consistent in your prayer time, even for a few minutes each day, because it can make a significant difference.
In a world that is constantly moving, let us not forget the importance of stillness and solitude. By following the example of Jesus, we can cultivate a deeper relationship with God and find peace in the midst of chaos. Let us make time for prayer, not just because it is a source of strength, hope, and joy but more importantly, we talk to God. | NWI
