The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) launched May 8 an anti-criminality reporting system designed to quickly respond to requests for assistance from business establishments in the 12 component cities in the province.

Dubbed “Project Dasig”, it will use the One Button SMS (short message service) mobile application to streamline and expedite the crime reporting process.

“Dasig” is the Hiligaynon word for fast or quick.

The initiative was launched at the Talisay Component City Police Station (CPS), with a simulation exercise witnessed by police provincial director, Col. Rainerio De Chavez.

“This is being piloted in all 12 cities in Negros Occidental. In seconds, the message will be received by the Philippine National Police,” De Chavez said.

The one-click SMS application will significantly enhance police response to information reports and complaints from the public, he added.

De Chavez said the goal is to achieve a response time of less than three minutes.

Under “Project Dasig”, the component city police stations conducted a mapping of vital installations and financial institutions for pre-registration into the system.

In just one click, a registered bank, pawnshop, money exchange shop, supermarket, grocery store, and gas station can report a crime incident to the police.

In the case of the Talisay CPS, it has registered an initial 26 income-generating establishments.

Vice Mayor Jose Nicolas Jalandoni III welcomed the launch of “Project Dasig”.

“We will work hand-in-hand with the police in using this helpful and useful system for the people. We will help educate our people not to abuse the app to ensure that technology will be used in the right way,” he said.

Other component city police stations in Negros Occidental implementing “Project Dasig” are those in San Carlos, Escalante, Sagay, Cadiz, Victorias, Silay, Bago, La Carlota, Himamaylan, Kabankalan, and Sipalay. | PNA
