Talisay City woodpusher Jhurell Rodjun Ferrer was the champion among the three players who got the same four points in the recently-concluded Governor’s Cup chess tournament 12 to 14 years old category, held at the Social Hall of the provincial Capitol this weekend.
Ferrer won P5,000 in cash prize, followed by Art Solomon Villaran of Escalante City in second place, who received P4,000.
Jecuambs Cuambot, also of Escalante, was third for P3,000, and Yzabella Noriel Nabor of La Carlota, fourth, and took home P2,000 in cash prize. Kristian Jade Bardinas of San Enrique placed fifth.
For the 15 to 17 years old mixed boys and girls, Karl Patrick Bardinas of San Enrique emerged as champion and won P5,000. He was followed by Cedrik Deniel Ignacio of Silay City, who received P4,000.
Pahaganas Dwayne and Joshua Villaran, both of Escalante City, were third and fourth placers and bagged P3,000 and P2,000, respectively, while Yoebel John Valmoria was fifth placer.
The top three female finishers in each category also received P500 as special awards each.
Forty players representing their towns and cities participated in the one-day tournament that was part of the series of competitions in the 2021 Governor’s Cup chess tournament./MML
