The San Carlos city government is giving incentives to law enforcement agencies for every accomplishment in the continuous campaign against illegal drugs.

Mayor Renato Gustilo said the latest accomplishment by members of the San Carlos police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency was the recovery of a million-peso worth of illegal drugs in a buy-bust operation last month.

The illegal drugs are believed to have come from Mindanao, and for disposal to the different areas of Negros Occidental.

San Carlos Mayor Renato Gustilo answers media questions on the latest ambush and state of illegal drugs in his city.

Gustilo said the city is ready to give support to the authorities in conducting raids and other types of operations, but they do not tolerate the killings of illegal drug suspects.

Gustilo said that as per the PDEA, the city has become a transit point for illegal drugs because of laxity in security in ports in Negros Oriental, particularly of passengers and goods coming from Mindanao.

Secondly, the shorelines in the 1st District of Negros Occidental are potential landing points of small boats coming from Cebu province that need not pass through the San Carlos port, he added.

Gustilo also said the daylight ambush that killed three persons Feb. 20 in Barangay Palampas, San Carlos City, might be related to illegal drugs, although he stressed that there is no final result of investigation yet.

He added that, until today, they have no knowledge as to the motive for the killing of Capitol consultant, Marton Cui, in April last year.

Gustilo was one of the 28 mayors who joined the meeting of the Unity Team, headed by presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos and vice presidentiable Sara Duterte, in Bacolod City Feb. 23.

He said majority of the officials of San Carlos City already expressed support to the BBM-Duterte tandem.

But Gustilo said he respects the choice for president of other officials in the 1st District, and of Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, who was former mayor of San Carlos.

Lacson has yet to endorse his presidential candidate, as of this time. — MML
