The city government of San Carlos in Negros Occidental will not lower its guard against the threat of coronavirus disease despite the removal of all checkpoints and border controls in the three barangays on Oct. 31.

Mayor Renato Gustilo, who ordered the removal of checkpoints and border controls in barangays Bulwangan, Punao, and Prosperidad, said the city government is now shifting efforts to combatting Covid-19 “inwardly”.

San Carlos City recorded 253 confirmed Covid cases, as of Nov. 1, with 96 active cases, 145 recoveries, and 12 deaths.

The removal of border controls came after the Incident Management Team re-assessed the efforts of the city government in addressing the pandemic.

The city government reminded residents and businesses to enhance health and safety protocols, such as conduct of temperature check, hand sanitation, and mandatory wearing of facemask and face shield at all times. -GPB
