Negros Occidental Second District Rep. Alfredo Marañon III has no plans of running for governor in the 2025 local elections, a top official of the United Negros Alliance (UNegA) said.

Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr., the party secretary-general, yesterday said that Marañon is firm in his decision to finish his term as congressman, wherein he is still in his first term.

He added that UNegA is fully committed to its alliance with Love Negros led by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, and will support Lacson’s bid for a third and last term in 2025.

Escalante said that Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer also expressed his intention to return to Congress to replace his wife, Fourth District Rep. Juliet Marie Ferrer, who is now in her third and final term.

He confirmed that UNegA is eyeing three incumbent officials to be included in the shortlist to run for vice governor.

Escalante, however, said that he is not among the three under consideration.

He said that Rep. Ferrer is also retiring from politics, and her name is not included in the shortlist for the vice gubernatorial position.

Under the UNegA and Love Negros coalition agreement, Escalante said their political group will choose the vice gubernatorial candidate. | GB
