Remnants of the New People’s Army (NPA) have claimed responsibility for the killing of a female forest guard in Sitio Taytay, Barangay Carabalan, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental on Nov. 14.

In a statement, Dionesio Magbuelas, spokesperson of the Romeo Nanta Command, accused Arnie “Pane” Tuparan of being a military informant.

They also claimed to have recovered four short firearms and a laptop in her possession.

Initial investigation conducted by the Himamaylan police showed that the victim was summarily executed outside of her residence in front of her son.

Without any reason and provocation, the victim was shot in the face.

After she fell to the ground, she was shot again in the head, according to the police.

Tuparan was also accused by rebel remnants of abusing her position as a forest guard by confiscating charcoal products of residents.

A certain Arnel Recaido, 48, of Sitio Bulod in the same barangay, was also disarmed of his short firearm, after being warned to stop acting as a guide during military operations, Magbuelas added. | GB
