The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Negros Island Region (DSWD NIR) said July 11 that it has turned over three community road subprojects, all worth P8,614,256.42, to the municipality of Don Salvador Benedicto (DSB) in Negros Occidental.

These projects, which reinforces the government’s commitment to inclusive infrastructure growth in rural areas, were implemented in barangays Bunga, Kumaliskis, and Pandanon.

In Purok Buri, Barangay Bunga, the project featured the concreting of a 230-meter access road with road excavation with actual final cost of P2.89 million; concreting of a 220-meter access road with shoulders, a base course, pipe culvert drainage installation, and slope protection in Purok Natawog, Kumaliskis, P3.03 million; and road improvement in Purok Cory, Barangay Pandanon, P2.67 million.

To complement the financial framework, the projects were funded through Kalahi-CIDSS grants and local government unit counterpart contributions, the DSWD-NIR said.

A total of 1,983 households are expected to directly benefit from the road improvements that aim to strengthen community resilience, foster market connections, and bridge development gaps in agricultural areas.

Executed via contract, all subprojects focused on concreting and improving critical access roads to enhance mobility, support local economies, and ensure safer travel for residents accessing basic services, the agency said.

The ceremonial turnover was led by DSWD-NIR director Arwin Razo, deputy regional program manager John Christian Dumancas, and the officials of Don Salvador Benedicto. ||
