A waste treatment, storage, and disposal (TSD) facility, with estimated project cost of P25 million, is being eyed in Barangay Cabug, Bacolod City.
Proposed by Homeworld Construction Corp. (HCC), the project will undergo a public hearing tomorrow, June 24, at Cabug Barangay Hall, the Environmental Management Bureau-Negros Island Region said in an advisory.
Per its Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), the proposed facility aims to “address the widespread and growing challenge of medical waste accumulation in Bacolod and Negros Island.”
Biomedical waste to be treated at the facility include medical waste, commonly generated by hospitals, laboratories, and healthcare institutions, like soiled materials, swabs, and dressings; and pathological waste, including tissues and body parts, and sharps, such as needles, blades, and lancets; pharmaceutical and laboratory wastes.
“HCC’s initiative contributes to strengthened environmental governance in Negros Island by providing a localized, technologically-advanced waste treatment solution,” the EIS states, adding the project will eliminate the need for long-distance transport of medical wastes to off-island facilities and ensures compliance with international and national health and environmental standards.
“Through this project, HCC supports sustainable development, public health protection, and the long-term environmental security of Bacolod and its neighboring municipalities,” the EIS added. ||
