The Department of Public Works and Highways Negros Occidental 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) said it has completed the installation of solar street lights, as well as concreted a road and constructed barangay halls, all worth about P132 million, in its area of coverage.

The installation of 460 solar street lights along the Binalbagan-Isabela Road, worth P97.9-million, aims to improve the safety and travel convenience of motorists.

DPWH Region 6 director Sanny Boy Oropel said the project aims to enhance road visibility during nighttime, improve the safety of motorists and pedestrians, and reduce nighttime accidents, fostering a sense of security for all road users.

“This roadway lighting project ensures safer travel for locals and visitors, and promotes environmental sustainability through solar energy,” Oropel said, adding that the “project minimizes reliance on traditional power sources, resulting in lower operational costs and reduced carbon emissions.”

The 2nd DEO also completed the concreting of a new road in Barangay Quintin Remo, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental.

The P19.7-million project involves the construction of an 801-lineal meter Portland cement concrete pavement, with a width of 2.50 meters on both lanes and thickness of 230 millimeters, complete with shoulder and drainage facilities.

“This new paved road demonstrates our commitment to enhancing public infrastructure and improving the quality of life for residents. Providing safer and more efficient roadways enables better connectivity and supports local economic growth,” Oropel said in a statement March 12.

In Hinigaran, the newly-completed one-storey building, worth P4.9 million, will serve as the new barangay hall of Anahaw, the DPWH 2nd DEO said.

The new Barangay 3-Poblacion hall in Himamaylan City, also amounting to P4.9-million, aims to provide local officials and residents with a convenient venue for sessions, meetings, and community engagements, including medical missions, during the distribution of relief goods, and for religious activities.

The DPWH also finished an additional learning facility at Don Angel Locsin Elementary School in Barangay Enclaro, Binalbagan.

The P4.9-million project involves the construction of a one-storey, two-classroom building with toilets, standard tables, and chairs.

This will help address the problem on insufficient classrooms due to the high number of enrollees each year, the DPWH said. | CGC
