Over 2K police to secure NIR Independence Day celebration

The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) has been placed on red alert status to ensure the safe and orderly conduct of 128th Independence Day activities across the region Friday, June 12.

PLt. Col. Joem Malong, PRO-NIR spokesperson, said a total of 2,197 police personnel will be deployed and strategically positioned in key cities and municipalities.

Security focus are on convergence areas flag-raising ceremonies, civic and cultural programs, wreath-laying activities, and other large public gatherings.

Malong further said enhanced police visibility, mobile patrols, checkpoints, traffic assistance, and police assistance desks will be established in major areas to ensure peace and order throughout the celebration.

While there are no validated threats in connection with the event, Philippine National Police chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the deployments and coordination with local government units are aimed at ensuring peaceful and orderly celebrations across the country.

“This is an annual activity that we prepare for every year. We trust our commanders and personnel for real-time security adjustments based on threat assessments, intelligence gathering and situation on the ground,” Nartatez said in a statement. | GB
