Negros Electric and Power Corp. (Negros Power) has been recognized by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) for its leadership in promoting renewable energy and advancing consumer participation in the country’s clean energy transition through the successful implementation of the Net-Metering Program.
The recognition was conferred during the ERC’s 25th Anniversary celebration held at the commission’s main office on June 26, where Negros Power received a plaque of recognition for its exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to the program.
ERC Chairperson Francis Saturnino Juan presented the award to Negros Power president and chief executive officer Roel Castro, in the presence of Energy Secretary Sharon Garin.
The ERC cited Negros Power for empowering the highest number of qualified end-users in the Visayas since the Net-Metering Program was launched in 2014. The initiative enables electricity consumers to install renewable energy systems, such as solar panels, and export excess electricity to the distribution grid, reducing electricity costs while supporting the country’s renewable energy goals.
According to the ERC, Negros Power’s sustained efforts have enabled thousands of consumers to generate their own electricity from renewable energy sources, helping democratize energy access, modernize the power sector, and accelerate the adoption of clean energy technologies.
The commission also recognized the utility’s initiatives as a benchmark for innovation and sustainability in the Philippine electric power industry.
In a statement, Negros Power expressed gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the country’s transition toward cleaner energy.
“We are honored to receive this recognition for our exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to advancing the clean energy transition,” the company said.
Negros Power added that the successful implementation of its Net-Metering Program has encouraged more households, businesses, and institutions to adopt renewable energy solutions and actively contribute to a more sustainable future.
As of June 19, 2026, the utility reported a total installed net-metering capacity of 23,797 kilowatts (kW) across 1,471 qualified end-users within its franchise area, reflecting the growing adoption of renewable energy technologies among its consumers.
“This achievement reflects our continued commitment to innovation, sustainability, and delivering meaningful change for the communities we serve,” the company said. ||
