The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration turned over P20,000 each to 50 beneficiaries of the Balik-Pinas! Balik-Hanapbuhay! (BPBH) program June 8 in Bacolod City, as a livelihood support package and financial assistance.

Two OFW-led associations from the cities of Talisay City and La Carlota also received financial assistance under the Tulong Pangkabuhayan sa Pag-unlad ng Samahang OFWs (PUSO) program, amounting to P200,000 and P500,000, respectively, during the Migrant Workers’ Day 2026 event at SM City Bacolod.

The activity, also attended by Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and other provincial and OWWA officials, is a nationwide annual event held every June to recognize the sacrifices and invaluable contributions of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), the Capitol said.

This year’s celebration is anchored on the theme, “Bayan, Bayani, Bayanihan”, which recognizes OFWs as modern-day heroes, whose sacrifices help build the nation, and highlights the importance of unity and shared responsibility in supporting their welfare and rights, it added.

Lacson, meanwhile, reaffirmed his commitment to promoting and protecting the rights and welfare of OFWs. He stressed the importance of supporting migrant workers and their families, whose wellbeing remains at the heart of the observance.

He also lauded Negrense OFWs for their sacrifices and contributions to their families and the nation, assuring them of the provincial government’s continued support for their welfare and protection.

Lacson thanked the OWWA Regional Welfare Office VI for spearheading the activity that gathered around 500 Negrense OFWs, and attended by OWWA Region 6 OIC James Mendiola, Rizza Joy Moldes, and Department of Migrant Workers NIR concurrent RD Glenda Aligonza, among others. ||
