First Lady Marie Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos led the distribution of 10-kilogram bags of rice each to around 2,000 senior citizens in Bacolod City, at STI-West Negros University Aug. 14.

The second rollout of the rice subsidy is under the “Bawat Bayan Makikinabang” program of the national government.

Mayor Greg Gasataya noted that the program specifically benefited non-pensioner elders aged 65 and above to ensure that relief reaches those without regular financial support.

He said that the city implemented the first tranche in July and has nearly completed the rollout, paving the way for the ceremonial launch of the second tranche.

Brgy. Taculing resident Larry Elloran, 70, who received the assistance for the second time, shared that the program is a great help to senior citizens like him, and is a truly commendable initiative.

Joining the First Lady were Gasataya, Bacolod Lone District Rep. Alfredo Benitez, Nanay Partylist Rep. Florabel Yatco, and Department of Agriculture-Negros Island Region regional executive director, Engr. Jose Albert Barrogo. | TMD
