The purchase request is being readied for the emergency procurement of more than 86,000 corrugated and plain galvanized sheets, worth P50 million, as allotted by the provincial government for the reconstruction of houses damaged by Typhoon Odette in the 5th and 6th districts of Negros Occidental recently.

Provincial Administrator, Atty. Rayfrando Diaz, said the amount will cover the procurement of 68,956 pieces of corrugated galvanized and 18,000 plain galvanized sheets.

As soon as all documents are ready, the supplier can deliver the number of needed roofing materials to the province of Negros Occidental, he added.

The 1,000 sacks of rice donated by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and received by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson Dec. 27.

“The materials will be delivered directly to the local relief distribution centers and the LGU will determine the number of pieces they needed, based on the list submitted. The LGU counterpart will be the lumber and other construction materials in order for the victims to reconstruct their houses,” Diaz said.

He added that the quantity of roofing materials is not enough to repair the damaged houses and this is only an initial help that the province can extend.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry delivered a donation of 1,000 sacks of rice to the province, and received by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson Dec. 27.

Diaz said that as per instructions from Lacson, 200 sacks of rice will be given each to Sipalay and Kabankalan, while the affected municipalities will get 100 sacks of rice each.

He added that the assistance was timely since Sipalay City Mayor Gina Lizares had called up the Governor’s Office and asked for rice augmentation as food aid to the affected residents.

More than 500 evacuees are still in the different evacuation centers in the 6th district, along with 300 in Candoni,  Ilog – 225,  Kabankalan – 34, La Castellana – 64, Sagay – 28, and more than a hundred in Sipalay City. — MML
