The Schools Division Office (SDO) of Himamaylan City and the Commission on Elections Negros Occidental, through Dr. Lynee Peñaflor and Atty. Ian Lee Ananoria, respectively, signed the memorandum of understanding (MOU) for Project V.O.I.C.E. Aug. 26.
Project V.O.I.C.E. stands for Voter Orientation for Informed, Conscientious, and Empowered Learners. It is collaborative voter education program designed to strengthen and eventually integrate voter orientation into the basic education curriculum for Junior High School (JHS) and Senior High School (SHS) students across public secondary schools in Himamaylan City.
More than simply teaching the mechanics of elections, the project seeks to cultivate informed, conscientious, and empowered citizenship at an early age, the Comelec Himamaylan said in a post.
“This ensures that our youth are not merely passive observers, but active, educated, and responsible participants in our democratic processes,” it added.
This partnership is a step toward building a generation that understands the value of every vote, recognizes the responsibilities that come with citizenship, and appreciates the role of informed participation in nation-building, the Commission said.
“Project V.O.I.C.E. reminds us of one foundational truth: Every informed voice shapes a better nation. Together, let us empower the youth to become informed voters and responsible citizens,” the Comelec Himamaylan stressed. ||
