In-person classes today, Nov. 4, at the Negros Occidental High School in Bacolod City, and across several towns and cities in the province have been suspended anew amid the 42°C heat index forecast.

The NOHS Office of the Principal, and the local government units of Talisay, Himamaylan, Hinigaran, Cauayan, and Isabela announced the class suspensions via their official FB pages, as of press time.

Talisay Mayor Rowena Lizares ordered the suspension of face-to-face (F2F) classes in all levels for public schools in the city…to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all students and school personnel.

“The decision to suspend F2F classes in private schools in Talisay is left to the sound discretion of respective school management,” she added.

The class suspension in Himamaylan City, and the towns of Hinigaran, Isabela, Cauayan, meanwhile, covers all levels, both public and private schools.

“With the increased risk of heat-related illnesses, we are extending the class suspension as a precautionary measure to safeguard the health and well-being of our students, teachers, and school personnel,” Himamaylan Mayor Raymund Tongson said in a post, as he urged everyone to stay hydrated, limit outdoor exposure, and avoid strenuous physical activities, especially during the hottest hours of the day.

“Extra precautions are advised for children, senior citizens, and individuals with existing health conditions,” he stressed. | CGC
