Minor, senior citizen drown on New Year’s Day

A child and an elderly man drowned in separate incidents in Hinobaan and Manapla towns, respectively, in Negros Occidental on New Year’s Day, police reports showed.

In Hinobaan in southern Negros, the body of a five-year-old girl was found in the children’s pool of a resort in Barangay Alim.

The victim was brought to a hospital, where doctors tried to revive her, but she did not survive.

Up north, a 65-year-old man was found lifeless by his live-in partner, Melanie Abella, along the shoreline of a resort in Barangay Tortosa, Manapla.

The victim, a resident of Rizal Street in Barangay 1 Poblacion, Victorias City, was declared dead on arrival at the Victorias Emergency Hospital.

The police ruled out any foul play on his death. | GB
