Enforcers of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) apprehended over 12,000 vehicles in the continuing strict implementation of the “No Registration, No Travel” policy across the country, for the month of July this year.
As per LTO data, the drivers/owners of the 11,521 of the apprehended vehicles were issued with traffic violation tickets, while 1,531 unregistered cars were impounded.
LTO chief, Atty. Vigor Mendoza II, said those apprehended include 1,478 private vans and 23 vans being used for public transportation, while 355 trucks and 95 SUVs were also apprehended.
He added that 69 public utility jeepneys and eight buses being used for public transportation were likewise apprehended, as well as 7,459 motorcycles, and 1,936 tricycles.
The LTO Calabarzon has the most number of apprehended unregistered vehicles with 5,204, and 403 impounded.
Meanwhile, 223 vehicles were apprehended, also last month, during the aggressive anti-colorum drive.
Mendoza said 176 of these were impounded.
He lauded regional directors and other LTO officials for their aggressive operations against unregistered vehicles, adding this is in line with the advocacy of the Department of Transportation to ensure the safety of all road users.
Mendoza said in a statement Aug. 1 that it is only through the registration of vehicles that the road worthiness of a vehicle is guaranteed, as he stressed its importance, particularly for vehicles being used for public transportation.
“We will continue the campaign against delinquent vehicle owners. I would like to remind our motorists that vehicle ownership comes with an obligation to register and renew the registration,” Mendoza said.
He earlier instructed all LTO regional directors that vehicles impounded in an anti-colorum drive need a court order before they are released to the owners. This is part of the aggressive campaign to protect legitimate operators and drivers, he added. ||
