Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, who earlier confirmed his intention to seek reelection in the May 2025 elections, on Monday (Feb. 26) said that he would welcome anybody who may run against him.

“We cannot choose our opponents. Everything is possible,” he added.

There have been reports that former Victorias City Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca will either run for governor, or congressman in the third district.

“Anybody can run for whatever position. Yes, I’m welcoming it,” he said.

Palanca is a member of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).

Lacson earlier pledged his support to the plan of Third District Board Member Manuel Frederick Ko to run for Abang Lingkod partylist representative, succeeding Stephen Joseph Paduano, who is now on his last term as the partylist representative.

The filing of certificate of candidacy for the 2025 midterm elections is slated this coming October.

“The political season is on already so it’s natural for political parties to organize with one intention for the 2025 elections,” Lacson said. | GB
