Some 28 Grade 9 students and teachers from Yeongdong County, South Korea, the sister city of Dumaguete, arrived Jan. 8 for their two-week English camp and study tour.
The group visited the Dumaguete City National High School and met fellow students and the principal, Claudio Sun, for introductions, interaction, and immersion.
Dancers of the Dumaguete’s Sandurot Festival, who are bound for Cebu to compete in Sinulog 2025, also performed before the Korean students.
The group also paid a courtesy call on Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo and City Administrator Lilani Ramon, and toured the National Museum of the Philippines in Dumaguete, which features the natural history of Negros Oriental in geology, zoology, and botany as well as exhibit architectural arts, archeology, and built heritage.
Formerly the Dumaguete Presidencia built in 1937 by the great Filipino architect, Juan M. Arellano, the museum has been declared as an Important Cultural Property on account of its exceptional cultural, artistic, and historical significance, as manifested by its beautiful blend of Spanish, American and Filipino architectures, the city said.
Another two batches of Yeongdong students will also arrive in Dumaguete on Jan. 24 and Feb. 18, for similar activities. ||
