Farmer killed, 4 others injured in stabbing, hacking incidents

A 65-year-old farmer died in a shooting incident, while four others, including a minor, were injured in shooting, stabbing, and hacking incidents Nov. 19 in Negros Occidental, the police said.

Diosdado Fuentes, 65, was found dead Saturday in his farm in Sitio Tambobo, Brgy. Celestino Villacin, Cadiz, a report from the city police said.

Fuentes, of Purok Pilar, Brgy. Divina Colonia, Sagay City, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead on arrival at the Sagay City District Hospital, the police added.

Initial police investigations showed that a witness, who owns a farm near the land being tilled by the victim, heard six gunshots before Fuentes was found dead.

Meanwhile, heated arguments triggered a stabbing incident, also Nov. 19, in Purok May-ang, Brgy. Haba, Candoni.

The police identified the suspect as Sanny Floreta, while those injured were William Parochilin and a 17-year-old minor.

The minor sustained a stab wound in his abdomen and Parochilin in his left arm, while Floreta had a lacerated wound in his upper eyelid and multiple abrasions in his hand and feet.

Police investigations showed that the victims and suspect were having a drinking spree, when the minor and Floreta figured in heated arguments.

Floreta, who was armed with a gaff, stabbed the minor while Parochilin, who was trying to pacify the commotion, was also stabbed.

Both victims and the suspect were brought to the Kabankalan District Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

In a separate incident, 63-year-old Alejandro Gonzales was injured after he was hacked allegedly by members of his family, also Saturday, in Sitio Marabo, Brgy. Mambaroto, Sipalay City.

Police investigations showed that the victim was on his way to the house of his older brother when he was hacked several times by three suspects, who turned out to be his kin.

The three were identified as the victim’s brother, Armando Gonzales Sr., 65, his niece Jezah Mae Gonzales, 29, and nephew Armando Gonzales Jr.

The suspects are now detained at the police custodial facility./GB
