The Team Energy Foundation, Inc., through its Productive Use of Renewable Energy program, turned over Friday, Aug. 6, a solar-powered decorticating machine to 125 pineapple farmers of Don Salvador Benedicto.
The decorticating machine will process pineapple leaves into a quality fiber that the farmers can sell to increase their income.
Team energy is one of the largest independent power producer in the country. Its partnership with the national government has made significant strides in implementing programs that promote ecological conservation and development of its host community.
The turn over of solar-powered decorticating machines to DSB farmers is part of TEFI’s project implemented through the Access to Sustainable Energy Programme ( ASEP), in partnership with the European Union and the Department of Energy of the Philippines.
It aims to support government effort to offer solution towards increasing access to electricity, integrating renewable energy and promoting energy efficiency.
As an overall program target, at least 1.5 million people will be reached by activities under ASEP. At least 20 mw capacity of rural electrification projects are installed. It also promotes electricity saving due to energy efficiency that regulates greenhouse gas emission.

In January 2021, ASEP launched its fourth PURE projects in Brgy. Bago, Don Salvador Benedicto. In addition to the decorticating machine, TEFI is also donating a 2kw pv system and a facility, through the Central Negros Electric Cooperative, that will be managed and operated by Bago Integrated Solar Farmers Association, a community-based organization.
