The Bacolod City Health Office said Jan. 10 that dengue cases increased by 355.9 percent, or 2,617 infections with seven deaths for the whole of 2024, compared to 574 cases with three mortalities the year prior.
Barangays Estefania, 16, Felisa, Sum-ag, Villamonte, Singcang, and 26 logged one death each, the CHO said, adding that Taculing and Mansilingan had more than 200 cases each.
Dr. Grace Tan, head of the CHO Environment Sanitation Division, reminds the public to observe the 4S in the continuous fight against the spread of the dengue virus.
These include searching for and destroying breeding sites of dengue-carrying mosquitoes; seeking early consultation; practicing self-protection measures, like the wearing of long pants and long-sleeved shirts, and saying yes or supporting fogging, only during outbreaks.
Bacolod barangays have also been urged to revive the 4 o’clock habit in cleaning surroundings and eliminating potential mosquito breeding sites. | CGC
