Dengue cases in Bacolod 240.3% higher – BCESU

The Bacolod City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit said that dengue cases in the city reached 667 with nine deaths, which is 240.3 percent higher than the cases last year of 196 with two fatalities.

Barangays Mansilingan and Taculing remained as hotspot areas for dengue, as of the Aug. 20 BCESU report, with 79 and 51 cases, respectively.

The other barangays with highest cases include Estefania – 50, Tangub – 45, Villamonte – 41, Singcang – 40, Alijis – 38, Sum-ag – 35, Mandalagan – 34, Cabug – 33, Handumanan – 25, and Bata with 23 cases.

Clustering of cases, from July 30 to Aug. 20, were noted in barangays Mansilingan, Taculing, Estefania, Villamonte, Alijis, Tangub, Bata, Mandalagan, Cabug, Vista Alegre, Singcang, Sum-ag, Banago, Handumanan, Brgy. 34, Granada, Brgy. 1, Pahanocoy, Felisa, and Brgy. 16.

Dr. Grace Tan, head of the Environmental Sanitation Division of the City Health Office, said the CHO is strongly campaigning for residents to search and destroy all breeding and nesting places of mosquitoes.

She added that fogging/spraying operations were held in Mansilingan, Taculing, at Montevista Elementary School, Jack and Jill School Montevista, the CHO compound, TTMF, BRO, and at the Comelec office./CGC
