A policeman who was alleged to have indiscriminately fired his gun on New Year’s Eve at their neighborhood in Talisay City has reported back to duty at Silay City Police Station on Tuesday.

Maj. Rollie Pondevilla, police chief of Silay, said that based on the investigation report he obtained from Talisay City Police Station, there was no evidence recovered in the incident.

The 50-year-old complainant, who refused to be named, claimed that Executive Master Sgt. Renzy Lambayong fired his gun after they had a heated argument because the policeman’s vehicle was blocking his way at Pueblo San Antonio Phase 1 in Barangay Zone  2-A  at around 11 p.m.

Maj. Jigger Gimeno, police chief Talisay, said they responded to the scene immediately after receiving a call about the incident, and during the investigation, it appear that the complainant and the policeman have grudges.

The responding team did not recover any evidence from the scene and the policeman denied the allegations.

However, Gimeno said that on Jan. 3, the complainant went back to Talisay City Police Station to present a deformed slug believed to be from the policeman’s firearm. A neighbor saw it the morning after the incident.

He added that he sent a memorandum to Lambayong, asking him to surrender his firearm in relation to the criminal aspect of their investigation and requested him to submit himself to a paraffin test to support his denial of the indiscriminate firing.

Pondevilla said it is up to the concerned policeman whether to surrender his firearm or not.

Meanwhile, Gimeno said a personnel of the Internal Affairs Service of the Philippine National Police has requested for an investigation report in line with the administrative aspect of the case. – GB
