CIDG arrests gun syndicate suspects

A member of alleged gun-running syndicate and an officer of anti-crime group were arrested by operatives of the Bacolod-based Criminal Investigation and Detection Group unit in separate buy-bust operations Tuesday (Oct. 27) in Negros Occidental.

Nabbed by CIDG operatives led by Police Chief Master Sgt. Ramiro Gocotano during a buy-bust operation at Gener Street in Brgy. Robles, La Castellana, was Joevel Enegreo Sumugat, a monitoring officer of Task Force Kasanag.

Sumugat also claimed to be an intelligence officer of Negros Island Region Anti-Crime Group.

In another operation at the same place, operatives under the Bacolod City Field Unit, also led by Gocotano and under the supervision of PMaj. Mark Lester Eteroza and assisted by the local police, arrested Renon Taclobos, a suspected member of a gun-running syndicate.

Both Sumugat and Taclobos, reportedly members of the “Tonggo Group” , a gun-running syndicate operating in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental, are facing charges for violation of RA 10591, known as Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition.

Sumugat’s arrest yielded a KG-9 caliber 9mm Luger with two magazines containing five ammunition, a gun silencer, P100 in buy-bust money and 42 pieces of boodle money in different denominations.

Gocotano, in his accomplishment report on Oplan Paglalansag Omega, said that they also recovered several identification cards with the name of Sumugat, including that of Task Force Kasanag, Negros Island Region Anti-Crime Group, Kabayan Action Group and Guardians.

He added that Sumugat also failed to present documents authorizing him to possess the confiscated gun.

The apprehension of Taclobos, a resident of Purok Libas, Brgy.Delicioso, Ilog, yielded an Uzi sub machine gun pistol with a magazine containing five live ammunition, P100 in buy-bust money and 32 pieces of boodle money in different denominations.
