CHED-NIR office opens at NORSU

Commission on Higher Education chairperson Prospero De Vera III led the inauguration of the CHED Negros Island Region office at the Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) in Dumaguete City Jan. 10.

CHED-NIR will oversee 85 higher 85 higher education institutions (HEIs) across three provinces, with Negros Occidental having the most number of HEIs at 57, Negros Oriental with 24, and Siquijor with four HEIs.

The inauguration program was also attended by CHED executive director, Atty. Cinderella Filipina Benitiz-Jaro, CHED commissioner Dr. Shirley Agrupis, NORSU president Dr. Noel Marjon Yasi, Dumaguete Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo, and other presidents of colleges and universities within the NIR jurisdiction.

Remollo said that the opening of the CHED NIR Office under regional director Raul Alvarez Jr. will ensure speedy and efficient coordination among local government units, colleges, and universities to support the aim of making quality education accessible and relevant so that graduates, including CHED scholars, can compete and maintain their edge globally.

He also offered to CHED a suitable and spacious lot at the government center in Barangay Bajumpandan, which is already hosting some government agencies, as future site to better accommodate and serve stakeholders, the city said.

Alvarez said the establishment of CHED-NIR will enhance client satisfaction by providing efficient, effective, and inclusive services, while also improving the quality of academic programs through timely monitoring and mentorship. ||
