Mayor Evelio Leonardia said he is finalizing the support of the city government for the scholarship of Bacolod teachers, who will enrol in the School Heads Academy scholarship program of the Department of Education.
Leonardia met with Councilor Renecito Novero, chair of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Education, executive assistant Moises Dela Cruz, and Richard Gelangre, president of the Bacolod City Public Schools Teachers Federation, at the Bacolod City Government Center Sept. 18 to discuss the scholarship grants.
Under the program, the recipient teachers will be trained to become principals while they are finishing their Master of Arts in Supervision and Administration, or their Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Management, a press release from the city said.
Gelangre said 41 teacher-scholars have been chosen by the DepEd Division of Bacolod City as the initial batch to enrol in the program for Academic Year 2021-2022.
Of the number, 16 are applying for masters’ degree and 25 for doctorate, with Carlos Hilado Memorial State College as partner-school.
Gelangre said their federation has requested the city government to fund the graduate studies of the teacher scholars.
The School Heads Academy is a project of the DepEd Region 6. It aims to admit 200 scholars from 20 schools division offices in Western Visayas.
The scholars will be trained on leadership, management, and technical-functional competencies and the desired values of a school head. —
