We celebrate this week two events that have deeply influenced and entrenched in our daily lives through the years.
These are the Chinese New Year, which will be observed on Friday, Feb. 12, and the World Radio Day on Saturday, Feb. 13. By coincidence, rarely do we get to mark these two events very close to the day of showing and expressing our appreciation to people we love – on Valentine’s Day.
The Philippines, being a country influenced by Chinese culture though the centuries, pause from its daily grind to honor the global tradition of welcoming the Lunar New Year through the celebration that pays tribute to family life, and highlights wishes for prosperity, good health and peace.
Of particular interest in this week’s celebration is the fact that 2021 is being marked as the Year of the Ox. Considering what the world went through last year, we cannot overemphasize the optimism of believers that 2021 will be a season of resilience, patience, strength, endurance, self-sacrifice, hardiness and determination as characterized by the Ox.
On a similar note, we welcome World Radio Day as an occasion to spotlight its role in our life – informing, entertaining, education and elevating into the plane of public discussion vital issues so that we can make sound and rational decisions in our day-to-day lives.
In addition to its collective influenced, radio, as an intimate medium, offering compassion and touching lives, regardless of age, status, location and background – influencing and inspiring them to become better persons and individuals.
Consequently, they become more responsible members of the community.
Because of their significance to our individual and collective sense of humanity and social well-being, we are giving special attention to these two events in this two-in-one issue.
A prosperous Chinese New Year and happy listening on World Radio Day. – NWI
