The Land Transportation Office in the Negros Island Region (LTO-NIR) is targeting zero road accidents during Oplan Biyaheng Ligtas for Undas 2026, as it intensifies roadside operations to enforce vehicle safety standard compliance.

LTO-NIR director Jeck Conlu also urged transport operators and drivers to ensure that their vehicles are fully operational before hitting the road.

“Expect that we will always be on the road conducting roadside inspections. And to all public operators and drivers, ensure that your vehicles are roadworthy,” Conlu said.

The agency deployed 111 personnel for continuous weekend and weekday operations.

As of Oct. 26, team inspections across Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Siquijor, and Bacolod City covered over 500 vehicles that resulted in 37 apprehensions.

Most violations involved the non-use of safety helmets, and seatbelts.

An unauthorized vehicle was also impounded, while several drivers were cited for worn-out tires, expired licenses, and unregistered motor vehicles.

Roadside inspections will continue throughout the region for the duration of the holiday, the LTO said. | TMD
