Aboitiz Renewables Inc., the renewable energy arm of AboitizPower, joined forces with the local government, security forces, and community organizations to plant native tree seedlings in Sitio Margareta, Barangay Caduhaan in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.
The collaborative effort brought together representatives from DENR-CENRO Cadiz LGU, Cadiz ENRO, the AFP 79th Infantry Battalion, PNP-SAF 2nd Battalion, and BFP Cadiz. Leaders and residents from barangays Luna and Caduhaan, GEDI, and local people’s organizations also stood alongside team members from Aboitiz Renewables to carry out the planting.
To help restore native biodiversity and strengthen the local ecosystem, the group planted kaningag (Philippine Cinnamon) and almaciga seedlings. Found only in the Philippines, both endemic species play a vital role in protecting local watersheds and supporting indigenous wildlife habitats.
Beyond immediate land restoration, the initiative focuses on advancing long-term environmental resilience across Negros Occidental through active local partnership and shared responsibility.
“Reforestation goes beyond putting seeds in the ground — it’s about building a healthier environment for the people who live here,” Christine Rubi, Solar Project Development manager at Aboitiz Renewables, said in a statement. “Seeing our government partners, local agencies, and especially community members work side by side shows what we can achieve when we pool our efforts toward a shared goal.”
The initiative reflects Aboitiz Renewables’ purpose to energize progress and uplift communities, ensuring clean energy development goes hand in hand with tangible, community-led environmental stewardship. ||
