A total of P3.66 million in emergency cash assistance was distributed to 355 sugarcane farmers in Manapla, Negros Occidental on Friday, Aug. 21 amid losses caused by the red-striped soft scale insect (RSSI) infestation.

The assistance, provided through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), was extended to qualified beneficiaries whose livelihoods and crops were adversely affected by the infestation.

In a statement, DSWD-Negros Island Region said each beneficiary received P10,325 under the Emergency Cash Transfer program, which is intended to help affected families meet their immediate needs and ease the financial burden brought about by crop losses.

The assistance is part of the government’s continuing efforts under the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to bring timely support closer to sectors whose livelihoods are directly affected by crises and emergencies. | GPB
