The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) has deployed 1,612 police personnel across the region to ensure the safety and security of students, teachers, school personnel, parents and commuters as classes officially open on Monday, June 8.
In a statement, PRO-NIR said police personnel have been strategically assigned to public and private schools, major thoroughfares, transportation terminals, pedestrian crossings, and other key areas to maintain peace and order and provide immediate assistance.
They are tasked to man the police assistance desks, serve as foot patrol officers and join the mobile patrol teams to enhance police visibility and support the smooth and orderly conduct of the Balik Eskwela 2026 program.
Aside from maintaining security, the police will assist in traffic management, monitor areas with high concentrations of students, and coordinate closely with school authorities, local government units, and partner agencies to address security concerns and emergencies promptly.
PRO-NIR Acting Director PBrig. Gen. Romano Cardiño emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring the success of Balik Eskwela 2026.
“PRO-NIR stands united with educators, parents, and communities in ensuring that every learner can pursue education in a safe, secure, and peaceful environment,” Cardiño said.
He added that the deployment of 1,612 police personnel reflects the organization’s commitment to protecting students, supporting teachers, and maintaining public safety throughout the school opening period.
“We want every child to enter the classroom with confidence, every parent to have peace of mind, and every school to remain a safe space where learning and opportunity can thrive,” Cardiño said.
Meanwhile, the PRO-NIR also urged the public to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious activities or safety concerns to deployed police personnel or the nearest police station for prompt response and appropriate action. | GB
