A drinking session ended in a tragedy after a Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) kagawad allegedly struck his elderly neighbor to death with a stone during a heated altercation in Calatrava, Negros Occidental on Tuesday, July 21.
Police identified the victim by his alias, “Rody,” 64, of Sitio Binanigan, Barangay Ilaya.
The suspect, alias “Mike,” 22, an incumbent SK kagawad in the same barangay, is now locked up in jail.
Police investigation showed the victim, suspect, and several of their neighbors were engaged in a social drinking session near the suspect’s residence prior to the confrontation.
The victim allegedly forced his way inside the house of the suspect and repeatedly pelted the residence with stones when his attempts were ignored.
Prompted to stop the victim, the SK kagawad went outside, leading to a physical fight between the two men.
During the fistfight, the suspect lost his temper, picked up a stone, and struck the victim on the head, with severity of the blow resulted in fatal injuries, the police said.
The SK kagawad surrendered to the police as charges are being prepared for filing against him in court. | GPB
