The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources is investigating another ground deformation in Barangay General Luna, Toboso, Negros Occidental.

It described the incident in Sitio Bugho as a “cover collapse” that falls under the category of sinkhole.

Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office head Jun Carbajosa said on Thursday, Feb. 26 the newly-found ground deformation is about three kilometers away from Sitio Bairan, where about 11.5 meters of sinkhole was discovered in previous weeks.

The newly-discovered ground deformation has a depth of one foot, with a diameter of 90 meters.

A team from the MGB will return to the barangay on the second week of March to further investigate the ground deformations in both sitios.

Carbajosa said the vicinities of the two ground deformations have already been cordoned.

The ground deformations may have been triggered by continuing rains, which led to soil erosion, he added. | GB
