SUV driver in fatal mishap released from detention

The Nov. 11 vehicular accident along Lacson-San Sebastian streets in Bacolod City

The driver of the sports utility vehicle that figured in a fatal accident in Bacolod City Wednesday was released yesterday (Nov. 12) after the reglementary period of detention had lapsed, P/Maj. Jovil Sedel, Station 1 chief.

Kenny Arillo, 21, is the driver of the Mitsubishi Montero SUV that was involved in a collision with an ambulance of South Bacolod General Hospital and a JMC delivery van, at corner Lacson-San Sebastian streets in Bacolod City.

The accident claimed the life of ambulance driver Jessie James Tranilla, 30.

Injured were Maria Cajeras, 30, a nurse; patient Vicente Limaco, 78, his watcher Jose Francisco Sombero III, and van driver Genesis Graellos, who were rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.

Arillo, the family of Cajeras, and the management of the South Bacolod General Hospital are set to meet for possible settlement, Sedel said.

The family of Tranilla has yet to go to Station 1, and the police has no idea whether or not they will file a case against Arillo.

Traffic investigation showed that the SUV was heading east of San Sebastian Street, when it rammed the north-bound ambulance enroute to the CLMMRH.

Tranilla lost control of the ambulance and hit the van that was heading south of Lacson.

The ambulance was a total wreck.

Rescuers retrieved the occupants of the ambulance, who were wearing personal protective equipment. -SGG
