The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Negros Island Region is set to distribute next month the third tranche of financial assistance to residents, whose houses were destroyed during the onslaught of Typhoon Tino.

DSWD-NIR records showed that 20,000 homes were destroyed by Tino across the NIR, and 182,000 others damaged.

DSWD-NIR director Arwin Lazo said the national government has allocated P1.2 billion in financial assistance to owners of destroyed or damaged houses.

Owners of destroyed houses will receive P10,000, and P5,000 to damaged homes, he added.

The distribution of financial assistance in Bacolod City was already completed. The DSWD-NIR said it will turn over support to affected residents in the 4th and 5th districts of Negros Occidental, as well as in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, by the second week of February.

Citing lack of personnel, Razo said they need the help of local government units to ensure the smooth releasing of emergency cash assistance. | GB
