The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded three more ash emission events at Kanlaon Volcano on Monday, Jan. 12, bringing to 11 the number of such occurrence since Jan. 3 this year.
This prompted the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Negros Occidental to issue a warning for the public to be alert for possible ashfall.
The latest ash emission events took place at 10:09 a.m, 11:31 a.m., and 12:47 p.m.
Alert Level 2 is in effect over Kanlaon Volcano and entry into the four-kilometer permanent danger zone remains strictly prohibited.
Pearly Sianson, Phivolcs science research specialist, said they have not monitored any ash fall on Monday.
Still, Sianson did not rule out a possibility of a moderate explosive eruption as what happened in Oct. 24 last year.
She also clarified that the ongoing restiveness of Kanlaon has nothing to do with the recent eruption of Mayon and Taal volcanos. | GB
