The municipal government of Valencia in Negros Oriental said Sept. 8 that it does not collect waste disposal fees, or demanding an annual fee of P1,800, much more on a house-to-house basis.

“It has come to our attention that a certain group of individuals are conducting unauthorized collection of waste disposal fees in the municipality of Valencia,” the LGU said in an advisory.

“A certain individual, using the alias “Reneboy Aragones”, and posing as barangay segregation waste disposal officer, and another individual using the alias “Rowel”, and posing as a roving enforcer, were reported to conduct a house-to-house visit, presenting to unsuspecting Valencianons a copy of a certain Segregation Waste Disposal Agreement Contract, bearing no official seal from the municipality of Valencia, and allegedly demanding (fees),” it added.

The LGU said these individuals are not related to the municipality of Valencia, per official Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office records, or the Barangay Task Force Basura Enforcement Team master-list.

It said that Mayor Edgar Teves Jr., has already mobilized the different municipal stakeholders to conduct appropriate actions on this matter. “Such incident has already been reported and referred to the PNP Valencia.”

The LGU said it remains committed to ensuring public trust, legal compliance, and transparency in the implementation of solid waste management programs.

“We implore the Valencianons to be vigilant on this type of illegal scheme, and be proactive in reporting to proper authorities the individuals trying to commit such fraudulent acts. Let us all work together in sustaining and improving the municipality,” it added. ||
